Meet Angelicia
The Woman Behind the Mission
P. (Paulene) Angelicia “Angie” Simmons is a North Carolina native, lawyer, and seminarian whose life and work center on advocacy, leadership, and service. A student body president in high school and the senior class president and magna cum laude graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in Political Science. She also holds a Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central School of Law, completed her Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 2024, and is pursuing her Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.). Angie is the Founder and Executive Director of The Fannie Lou Hamer Institute of Advocacy & Social Action, where she leads initiatives such as Fannie Lou’s Girls, a rite-of-passage program for Black girls.
Passionate about justice, community organizing, and the empowerment of Black women and girls, she is also an active member of several civic, faith-based, and professional organizations.
